What are the certificates confirming the qualification of a welder in Poland?

• Certificate IS (Instytucie Spawalnictwa).

The certification center is accredited:

Polish Center for Accreditation (PCA).
European Federation of Education (EWF).
International Institute of Welding (IIW).

Nonetheless, these are conjectures of people. In theory an IS certificate fits international requirements. And in practice the role of market takes the main part, because organizations that issuing certificates are not doing it for free. Nowadays competition has become a real war…

• Certificate of UDT (“Urządu Dozoru Technicznego” – Office of Technical Inspection).

The Person Certification Body, UDT-CERT (JCO UDT-CERT), offers certification of persons, in accordance with the certification process, in the field of welding supervision.
Certification of persons that are controlling welding production operations, as well as all actions related to welding in accordance with PN-EN ISO 14731: 2008 “Welding control – tasks and responsibilities”.

This certificate is important for 5 years.

Test confirming the qualification of a welder in Poland. The examination for this certificate consists of 3 parts:

I. Development of pWPS in the form of FCO-01/11 – compatible PN-EN ISO 15609-1 for connector
welded, specified by the examiner.

You have 90 minutes. The possibility of using training materials in the field of supervision and control of welding and standards is allowed.

II. Visual inspection of the welded joint, designated supervisor and filling out the study protocol.

III. Solving of the test, that is consist of at least 28 questions, such as multiple choice of the following area of knowledge:

1. Rules for choosing the welding method.
2. Types of joints and welds; their designation in the drawings.
3. Welding positions.
4. Basic materials, their properties and weldability.
5. Preparation of the joint for welding.
6. Additional materials for welding – characteristics, composition, marking, selection.
7. Inconsistencies (disadvantages) of welding – types, causes, prevention.
8. Methods of quality control of welded joints.
9. Welding stresses and deformations.
10. Assessment and certification of welders in the UDT certification system.
11. Welding methods – characteristics, purpose, application.
12. Equipment for welding – construction, operation, maintenance.
13. Welding technology WPS, parameters, heating, welding procedure, heat treatment.
14. Principles of work in the repair of welded joints.
15. Welding safety is a danger to the welder and the environment.

The time is 60 minutes. Ban on the use of auxiliary materials.

• Certificate TUV (TÜV Rheinland Polska Sp. z o.o.).

This certificate is positioned as the most proven, highest quality, which follows high standards. Most of our clients (employers who are looking for welders), require certificates from this organization.

This certificate is important for 3 years and is very popular in Germany.

But there are other certificates. For example, in Norway, employers primarily employ welders with a DNV certificate (Det Norske Veritas), and in Britain – GL (Genfer Lloyd). Perhaps, later we will write more about these certificates.

– The first is PN-EN 287-1: 2007 Steel.
– The second is PN-EN 9606-2 Aluminum and aluminum alloys.
